Like graphite, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have a honeycomb structure made up of hexagonal carbon rings. These honeycomb shapes form tubes with defined diameters. They may have one or several walls. The unique electrical, mechanical and thermal properties of CNTs make them suitable for a tremendous variety of applications. Accordingly, their market potential for the next few years is estimated at several thousand tons annually. CNTs can make thermoplastics conductive and thermosets considerably stronger and stiffer.
